Saints lose Hayes and Koschitzke
St Kilda young guns Lenny Hayes and Justin Koschitzke had their haloes dented by suspension as their high-flying club suffered a double blow at the AFL tribunal.
Hayes, the St Kilda captain, was found guilty of striking Brisbane's Tim Notting at Telstra Dome last Saturday night and suspended for two games while big man Koschitzke was found guilty of tripping Lion Mal Michael and outed for one game.
Both players were charged on video evidence and incurred their first suspensions and will miss Saturday's big round seven game against Fremantle at Subiaco.
Hayes will also miss the round eight game against Collingwood.
It was a disastrous night for St Kilda, which is unbeaten after six rounds and on top of the ladder and faces another stern test against the fourth-placed Dockers.
In tonight's other case, Western Bulldogs star Brad Johnson was cleared of striking and is available for Friday night's game against Essendon.
Johnson, who kicked the winning goal against the Kangaroos last Saturday, was reported on video evidence for striking Roos tagger Brad Rawlings.
But the tribunal threw out the case before both sides began summing up as it was clear the Bulldog made accidental high contact as his arm slid up Rawlings' arm.
Hayes was best afield in the one-point win over Brisbane and was due to play his 100th AFL game against Fremantle.
But the star onballer was found to have been reckless in putting his left elbow up and hitting Notting in the chin as the airborne Lion was looking up trying to slap the ball forward.
