Carey dodges AFL Tribunal bullet
Another Wayne Carey versus the Kangaroos showdown was averted when the Adelaide forward was told he wouldn't have to face the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.
Carey had been reported for striking Kangaroos midfielder Shannon Grant during his old club's 75-point thumping of the Crows.
But umpire Kieron Nicholls withdrew the charge against Carey after viewing video evidence of the incident.
Nicholls said he believed initial contact was made to the neck or shoulder and was not sufficient to be deemed a strike.
The incident during Sunday's match at the MCG sparked a confrontation between Carey and several of his former teammates, most notably David King.
But Kangaroos skipper Adam Simpson played down the latest battle between the club Carey left after his affair with former teammate Anthony Stevens' wife was revealed two years ago and its former spearhead.
"He's pretty good taking a dive once he's done the wrong thing, Duck, so I knew he'd throw one in," Simpson said.
"We were just trying to diffuse the situation.
"The focus is on Wayne Carey from you guys (media), but not from us.
"It's really a thing of the past. We only concentrate on him because he's a good player."
