Roos to wait for Carey grudge game
The Kangaroos will have to wait until May before they get a crack at Wayne Carey.
Adelaide scuttled hopes of extra spice being added to next week's AFL Wizard Cup semi-final by ruling Carey out of a showdown with his former teammates at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.
The Crows said Carey had yet to fully overcome a hamstring strain and would sit out the game against the team he left in disgrace a year ago when his affair with the wife of then deputy Anthony Stevens went public.
"Wayne's following a rehabilitation schedule that doesn't include playing this week, though he's responded to treatment and going really well," Adelaide football manager John Reid said.
"It would be silly to rush him in. Why would we risk him?"
Adelaide and the Kangaroos won through to the semi-final with respective wins over West Coast and Melbourne.
Geelong, which beat an undermanned Brisbane in Cairns last night, will play the winner of tonight's clash between Collingwood and Hawthorn in the other semi, at Telstra Dome.
Carey pulled up with a sore hamstring after a trial match for the Crows against Norwood last month and has not played since.
Adelaide wants the key forward to have ay least one game under his belt when the season starts and may seek permission to play him in an SANFL match the weekend before - when AFL clubs have the bye.
The eagerly-awaited game between Carey and his former teammates will now have to wait until round six.
