Voss cleared to play Swans
Brisbane Lions captain Michael Voss confirmed he will play in the AFL round-one blockbuster against Sydney at the Gabba on Saturday.
Voss, hampered by a chronic knee injury, has only played two quarters of football in the pre-season.
Coach Leigh Matthews said he was almost certain Voss would play but on Tuesday night at the club's season launch, the Lions' captain went a step further saying he will definitely be on the field.
"I will be out there Saturday night," Voss told the crowd.
But there remains a cloud over full-forward Alastair Lynch who strained his quadricep in training last week.
Team medicos will take a close look at the veteran at training on Wednesday.
The good news for the three-time AFL premiers is All-Australian centre halfback Justin Leppitsch, who has yet to play in the pre-season because of a shoulder surgery, could make a surprise return.
He was given the green light from team medicos and Matthews has to decide whether to rush him back into the senior team or give him a game or two in the reserves.
The Lions launched their season in front of around 500 people at the Victoria Park Golf Club in Brisbane.
Matthews said despite expectations of a record equally fourth consecutive premiership in 2004, his team did not feel any extra pressure.
