AFL Queensland is searching for the Sunshine State's Team of the Century.

Chief executive Richard Griffiths said the current success of the Brisbane Lions and the growth of the game in the state made it a fitting time to honour Queensland's greatest players.

A committee is still working out selection criteria but will choose a team based on whether a player has had a "significant impact" on the code in Queensland.

Brisbane Lions captain Michael Voss said the Team of the Century would stimulate great interest in the community.

"I think it's a fantastic idea and it's sure to generate a lot of discussion," Voss said.

The Team of the Century will be announced on June 16 at a gala function at the Gabba.
