Rangers make WNBL final
Lauren Jackson's WNBL season is over, but the Dandenong Rangers ensured theirs will extend into a home grand final in a fortnight.
Jackson's defending champion Canberra Capitals were knocked out of the finals by Adelaide Lightning 72-63 in Adelaide in the minor semi-final.
But minor premier Dandenong blitzed Sydney Flames 85-68 in the major semi at Dandenong Stadium to book a grand final berth and home court advantage for the February 21 final.
Sydney will now host Adelaide next weekend in Sydney in the knockout semi-final, with the winner securing the other grand final spot.
Jackson, arguably the world's best women's basketballer, scored a game-high 30 points for the Capitals in Adelaide - nine in the last five minutes as she brought her side within sight of victory.
But her unsportsmanlike foul inside the final 90 seconds put paid to the Capitals' fightback from eight points down early in the fourth.
Adelaide guard Jennifer Screen scored both foul shots to finish with 16 and give her side the victory buffer it needed.
Adelaide centre Laura Summerton also scored 16.
Summerton said it was a breakthrough victory for Adelaide, which trailed for much of the night before taking a one-point lead to the final change.
"The last couple of years we haven't beaten Canberra with Lauren Jackson playing - it's a great win for us," Summerton said.
