Green taps inner ferocity
Danny Green plans to unleash his ferocious and vicious side next month when he endeavours to become the first boxer from Western Australian to win a world title in his clash with Germany's Markus Beyer.
Green has declared himself "more than 100 per cent confident" of taking the World Boxing Council super middleweight title off Beyer on August 16 at Nurburgring Formula One circuit.
He has never fought in Germany or against a German boxer, but the 30-year-old fighter is motivated by a sense of history and patriotism.
"I'm a very proud Australian, I love my country to bits and going to Germany is a big thing for me because obviously our troops fought there a long time ago," Green said.
"I know I have to go forward and basically go to war and get in the trenches. I'm going over to fight in Germany so I'm going to adopt the same attitude - never say die and nothing but victory."
Dual Olympian Beyer, 32, has logged 27 wins (11 by KO) and one loss and has won the WBC title on two separate occasions.
Green, who has boxed a total of just 53 rounds in winning all of his 16 professional fights by KO, believes his relative inexperience could see him underestimated by Beyer.
He has never been taken beyond eight rounds, while Beyer has gone the full 12 rounds five times.
"As humble and as laid back as I am outside the ring, I want to make sure when I get between those ropes that my ferocity and viciousness is switched on and I unleash all that energy and excitement that I built up onto him," said Green.
"He's a very technical fighter and he's very defensive and he moves well and he's balanced.
