Dokic keeps officials in the dark
Troubled tennis star Jelena Dokic continues to leave Australian Open officials in the dark as to whether she intends to play in Melbourne next week.
But Tennis Australia President Geoff Pollard wants an answer by Thursday, before the qualifying draw is held.
Australian Open organisers have all but given up hope of Dokic turning up at Melbourne Park after she pulled out of this week's adidas International.
Her decision came after she reportedly reconciled with her father Damir, who said his daughter would skip the Australian Open and make her first playing appearance of the new year in Tokyo in February.
Dokic pulled out of the WTA event in Auckland and Sydney tournament just days before they started and there is little reason to believe she would arrive in Melbourne without playing a warm-up tournament.
"We still haven't got a final answer," Pollard said.
"We do the qualifying draw on Thursday.
"We would hope by the qualifying draw she's given us a yay or a nay about coming to the Australian Open because if she says no then the players who's the top in the qualifying becomes the last one on the main draw.
"If I was the player who was top of the qualifier I'd be trying my hardest to ring Jelena now to find the answer."
Pollard said Dokic, formerly Australia's No.1 ranked player, would be welcomed back if she choose to contest the grand slam or if she decided to once again play for Australia.
