Woodbridge set for Davis Cup record
Another Davis Cup, another landmark in the tennis career of Australia's Todd Woodbridge.
This time, though, it is one that places Woodbridge at the head of one of the game's more impressive lists.
When he walks off the Rod Laver arena after the crucial doubles rubber in the Davis Cup against Spain on Saturday, Woodbridge will have played in more Cup ties than any other Australian.
Woodbridge saddles up in his 29th tie this weekend, taking him past Davis Cup legend Adrian Quist.
"When you have been around as long as I have, those things just happen," Woodbridge said.
"I'm just pretty focused about doing our job again this weekend."
As always, the second day doubles rubber will be a key to the tie.
And whatever way Friday's singles matches go, Australia knows the doubles rubber will be alive while ever Woodbridge is on court.
As the junior half of the best combination in the world during the 1990s, Woodbridge won 17 grand slam doubles titles.
When his long-time partner Mark Woodforde retired, he teamed up with Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman to win four more.
