Queensland are counting the cost of their State of Origin series victory with several players suffering potentially serious injuries in Wednesday night's torrid encounter.

NSW prevented a series clean sweep with an 18-4 victory at Suncorp Stadium, but the Queensland dressing room was left looking like a casualty ward after the game.

Brisbane winger Brent Tate appeared the worse affected, the New Zealand Warriors-bound flyer to undergo scans on possible cruciate ligament damage in his left knee which could end his season.

Broncos teammates Karmichael Hunt (corks) and Justin Hodges (ankle) are also in extreme doubt for Friday night's south-Queensland derby against Gold Coast, while Melbourne duo Dallas Johnson (concussion) and Greg Inglis (knee) are unlikely to be right for the Storm's clash against South Sydney on Saturday night.

The injuries and the tight loss took the gloss off Queensland's series victory celebrations, though Maroons skipper Darren Lockyer said he was proud of his undermanned team's efforts.

"We didn't get the result, but I am happy with our effort," Lockyer said.

"You can't ask for much more."

The win will give the Blues something to build on for next season though it is likely it will be under a new coaching regime with Melbourne's Craig Bellamy the man tipped to take over from incumbent Graham Murray.

The Blues didn't escape unscathed from Wednesday's brutal contest with halfback Brett Kimmorley likely to miss 4-6 weeks with medial ligament damage in his knee.

Kimmorley suffered the injury in the opening minutes of the game but battled on bravely before being replaced by Kurt Gidley late in the game.
