Tate's Origin hopes dashed
Brent Tate's dreams of a State of Origin recall are in tatters with the Warriors centre suffering a suspected broken jaw in Sunday's NRL match against St George Illawarra.
Tate came off second best following a head clash with Dragons backrower Ben Creagh, and attempted to play on despite bleeding heavily from his mouth.
He eventually left the field and headed straight for the sheds.
The 28-year-old was thrust back into Origin calculations in the wake of Israel Folau's defection to AFL last week, with Queensland selectors indicating they would not use the Brisbane flyer for the remainder of the series.
That left Tate and Wests Tigers winger Lote Tuqiri in the frame for a Maroons recall, with Tate's injury likely clearing the way for Tuqiri to play his first Origin clash since 2002 following his seven-year stint in rugby union.
