Trio re-sign with Saints in AFL
A week after coach Ross Lyon sensationally left St Kilda, the AFL club has received some badly-needed good news.
The Saints announced on Thursday they had re-signed players David Armitage, Jack Steven and Tom Simpkin.
Armitage played his 50th game in their season-ending elimination final loss to Sydney, while Steven also had a strong season.
Simpkin played two senior games this year after coming off the rookie list.
"(It) was a breakout year for David and it was pleasing to see his effort rewarded with him playing every game when available," Saints list manager Ameet Bains said.
"Jack's year, particularly in the absence of Lenny Hayes, highlighted his importance to the Saints midfield.
"His ability to step up and influence games was critical."
Bains added Simpkin had impressed when he made his senior debut in round 11 against Collingwood, playing on key forward Chris Dawes.
St Kilda had nine players make their senior debuts this season.
Since Lyon's shock departure to Fremantle, fitness coach David Misson has gone to Melbourne and assistant coach Peter Berbakov has returned to Sydney.
