Luke not having a Ball with Saints
St Kilda midfielder Luke Ball said he wanted to be traded by the club on Monday, preferably to Collingwood.
Ball, who played well in the Saints' grand final loss but had been dropped during the year, told coach Ross Lyon about his intentions late Monday.
In a statement the club said it had offered the 2006 club captain a three-year contract in June. "We are extremely disappointed that Luke has come to this decision," Lyon said.
"We were confident Luke would stay with the club, as he has always been a required player.
"However we will now do what is best for the St Kilda football club's interests and those of its members and supporters with the aim of completing an equitable trade for a person of Luke's calibre, leadership, playing honours and experience."
Ball was originally drafted to St Kilda in 2001. He has played 142 AFL games for the Saints.
In 2005, Ball won selection in the All-Australian team and shared the club's best-and-fairest award.
