Lyon starts AFL coaching duties at Dockers
New Fremantle coach Ross Lyon will officially commence duties at the Dockers this week, but he still faces a monumental task winning over a large portion of AFL fans furious at the way predecessor Mark Harvey was given the boot.
Lyon controversially quit his post at St Kilda last week to take up a four-year deal at the Dockers.
His appointment led to the sacking of the popular Harvey, who still had a year to run on his contract and had led the Dockers to the semi-final in 2010.
Lyon arrived in Perth on Tuesday and will hold a series of meetings with the club's football department over the coming days.
He said he was keen for his wife Kirsten and their three children to set up home and be settled in Perth.
"I'm really excited about being here at Freo and I want to get across as much as possible as soon as possible," Lyon said in a statement.
"What I can say at this early stage is that it is clear that planning for the 2012 pre-season is already well advanced."
