Qld rugby matches proceed after death
Queensland Rugby (QR) have given the green light to games in Brisbane this weekend after consulting players still reeling from Halley Appleby's tragic death.
QR also had "extensive" talks with experts in trauma counselling before confirming scheduled matches would proceed.
A minute's silence will be held this weekend before all QR matches in Brisbane with players also set to wear black armbands to remember Appleby.
University of Queensland player Appleby, 21, died on Monday morning after he was knocked unconscious in a top grade clash with GPS on Saturday.
"The decision to proceed with all competitions and matches scheduled for the upcoming round was finalised by Queensland Rugby after extensive consultation with medical experts in trauma counselling and with all Premier Rugby clubs - in particular University of Queensland and GPS," a QR statement said.
"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Queensland Rugby community remain with the Appleby family during this difficult time."
A QR spokesman said a minutes's silence would be observed and black armbands worn at all matches in Brisbane from the under 19 Colts and up "as a mark of respect to Halley, his family and friends, and all those affected within the entire Rugby community".
Wallabies players will also wear black armbands in their Sydney clash with the Springboks on Saturday.
