McPharlin can face Eagles, despite charge

Fremantle defender Luke McPharlin can play in Sunday's crunch AFL derby against West Coast despite a rough conduct charge.

A penalty discount for a previous clean record means he will cop only a reprimand for his late, high bump on Sydney's Craig Bird at the SCG on Sunday, even if he fights the charge and loses.

McPharlin's avoidance of a ban is significant, given his importance to a Dockers' defence coming up against a potent Eagles' attack which is the tallest in the competition.

Adelaide defender Andy Otten also faces a reprimand at worst, for allegedly tripping Essendon forward Stewart Crameri during the second half of the Bombers' Friday night comeback win at AAMI Stadium.

The low impact caused to Crameri kept the grading of the offence below the level needed for a ban.

McPharlin and Otten were the only players charged with offences which attracted sanctions other than fines.

Sydney ruckman Shane Mumford and forward Ben McGlynn and Dockers Adam McPhee and Nick Lower have been charged with melee involvement, while Bird also faces a fine for making negligent contact with an umpire.

Among other incidents assessed, Port Adelaide midfielder Hamish Hartlett was cleared over what looked to be a high elbow on Melbourne's Dan Nicholson on Saturday night in Darwin.

A Demons' medical report stating Nicholson was uninjured helped convince the match review panel the contact was not forceful enough to sustain a report.
