Test winger Jharal Yow Yeh will miss Friday night's NRL match against South Sydney in Perth with a serious case of tonsillitis.

Yow Yeh did not travel to Perth with the Broncos after coming down with the illness on Monday and failing to improve.

He will be replaced by Dale Copley, while Dane Gagai has travelled with the side as 18th man.

Broncos coach Anthony Griffin told News Limited Yow Yeh is "pretty crook".

"We thought he was going to be right, but he woke up (on Wednesday) morning and it had gone to another level, so we had to leave him at home," Griffin said.

Prop Ben Hannant will join the team on Thursday after staying at home with his wife for the birth of their fourth child.
