Hodges says it's 'game on' with Inglis
Brisbane centre Justin Hodges says it'll definitely be "game on" when he clashes with South Sydney rival and friend Greg Inglis in Friday night's NRL showdown in Perth.
Hodges revealed before flying west on Wednesday that Inglis had telephoned him over the weekend to suss out whether he was going to make his comeback from a hamstring injury in Perth.
The Broncos star is banking on taking the points off Inglis to prove his fitness for next month's State of Origin decider.
After missing the first two games through injury, he is desperate to be part of Brisbane skipper Darren Lockyer's Origin farewell at Suncorp Stadium on July 6.
"We're good mates but we're both going over to Perth to do a job for our clubs," said Hodges at Brisbane airport.
"I'm pretty sure when we run out on Friday night it's going to be game on.
"GI (Inglis) has probably been the best centre in the game for a long time so it's going to be a big challenge for me to step up in my first game back for six weeks, but I'm confident I'll be right."
Hodges warned that the 115kg Inglis was on the verge of producing his best after seeing glimpses of his old form in his return to Origin in Sydney earlier this month.
"You saw it in Origin II he was doing a few of those runs he does," said Hodges.
"He's close but hopefully it's not on Friday night, hopefully it's the Wednesday night of Origin."
Hodges and Lockyer will have their hands full containing Inglis and giant forward Dave Taylor who will attack their right side.
"He (Taylor) is a big bloke who can always surprise you," said Hodges.
"I've already told Locky that's his job.
"I've got to look after GI and he can look after Dave."
