Blues player questioned over assault
Auckland Blues player Rene Ranger is being investigated for alleged assault after a late-night street brawl.
The Blues newcomer, 22, was spoken to by police on Tuesday over an incident in Matakana, in the Rodney district, that left a man unconscious, The New Zealand Herald reported.
Matakana police said an investigation was under way after "an incident" outside Matakana House bar on Matakana Road early Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 1.50am and one person was taken to North Shore Hospital, a St John Ambulance spokesman said.
Auckland Rugby union chief executive Andy Dalton confirmed Ranger had been spoken to.
"We are aware of an incident and are looking into the matter. We have spoken to the player involved, but until we know more details it would be unhelpful to comment further," he told the paper.
