Reigning Man of Steel Pat Richards has ended talk over a move to rugby union or a return to Australia by signing a new two-year deal with champions Wigan.

The 29-year-old winger, who joined Wigan from Wests Tigers in 2006, was out of contract at the end of this season and had been linked with a move to Sale or back to the NRL.

But he will now stay with the Cherry and Whites for the 2012 and 2013 campaigns.

Having been a consistent performer throughout his time in England, Richards rose to prominence last season, scoring 32 tries and kicking 167 goals to sweep the board at the club's player of the year awards, plus winning the Man of Steel and Rugby League writers' prizes as well.

"I am pleased that my immediate future has now been sorted and I am thrilled to be staying with Wigan," Richards said.

"Myself and my family have thoroughly enjoyed our time in the UK, which we now call home, and with the Wigan club.

"2010 was a magnificent year for me, both individually and for the club, and I'm hoping to play a major part in bringing more success to our magnificent fans over the next couple of years."

Richards has also been chosen in the Exiles squad to face England on June 10.
