Brisbane Lions boss steps down
Brisbane Lions chief executive Michael Bowers has quit the club.
Bowers' shock decision to step down after nine seasons came after he met with the board yesterday.
Lions chairman Angus Johnson said both parties agreed it was "an appropriate time" for a change.
"Michael has been an asset to this club over a long period of time and has overseen some of the most successful years in our club's history," Johnson said.
"Now we are presented with an exciting opportunity to employ a new CEO who will lead the club into a new era."
Johnson said former Richmond Football Club CEO Steven Wright, who has been running a sports consultancy company in Queensland, will become interim CEO until a permanent replacement is appointed.
He said the board would undertake a national search to find the best qualified person to take on the job.
"As a club we have made some major changes in recent times and we are really excited about the future," he said.
"We are all united behind the vision of returning the club to a successful position on and off the field."
