Huddersfield stun leaders Wigan
Former Wests Tiger Brett Hodgson rained on Wigan's parade as he helped guide Huddersfield to a shock 18-16 victory which temporarily denies the Warriors the Super League leaders' shield.
Hodgson kicked three goals in a superb fightback by the Giants with ex-Warrior Luke Robinson and Leroy Cudjoe, twice, crossing in the second half.
Things appeared to be going according to script in a bad-tempered first half, in which three players were binned, as Karl Pryce's 50th career try and a score from Joel Tomkins gave the hosts a 10-0 lead.
But the visitors hit back after the break as Cudjoe and Robinson both seized on loose balls to touch down.
Wigan seemed to have got out of jail thanks to a wonderful individual score from Sam Tomkins but Danny Brough's clever kick set up Cudjoe for his second with Hodgson adding the decisive two points.
St Helens coach Mick Potter saw his current side hammer Bradford, the club he will join at the end of the season, 60-12 with ex-Penrith prop Tony Puletua one of 11 try scorers.
Jon Wilkin scored two of the tries with impressive young winger Jamie Foster also bagging a double and eight goals for a personal haul of 24 points.
Second-rower Danny Tickle converted a controversial last-gasp penalty as 12-man Hull edged past Crusaders 18-16.
Hull had former Sydney Roosters back Jordan Tansey sent off in the closing stages for a spear tackle and were rocked further when Peter Lupton's try made it 16-16 with four minutes remaining.
But referee James Child spotted a foul on Reece Lyne in the last minute and Tickle converted from the touchline to snatch the win.
Former Manly winger Scott Donald scored Leeds Rhinos' final try as they demolished Castleford Tigers 38-6 to keep the heat on fourth-placed Hull.
Fellow winger Ryan Hall scored twice for the reigning champions to go to 20 tries for the season while former New Zealand Warriors forward Ali Lauitiiti also crossed.
The result was a hammer blow for the Tigers play-off hopes but it also came at a cost for Brian McClennan's men.
The former New Zealand coach saw England captain Jamie Peacock limp off with a knee problem while Luke Burgess has been ruled out of the Challenge Cup final with a broken jaw.
At the other end of the table former Manly scrum-half Luke Dorn's try helped Harlequins to a 16-12 victory over Catalan Dragons and leapfrog their opponents off bottom place.
The Dragons were on course for a morale-boosting third straight league victory courtesy of second-half tries from ex-Australia international Dane Carlaw and Sebastien Raguin.
Quins had earlier led after Tony Clubb and Luke Dorn had piled over but their proved a twist in the tale as hooker Dorn set up hooker Andy Ellis for a dramatic late try.
Former Melbourne Storm star Matt King grabbed a hat-trick of tries as Warrington Wolves warmed up for the Challenge Cup final with an impressive 36-18 defeat of Wakefield Wildcats.
Another ex-Storm player, Clint Newton, bagged two in Hull KR's resounding 44-18 defeat of Salford - a result that lifts them to sixth place - while fellow Australian Michael Dobson finished with a 16-point haul.
