Woosha keeps Eagles' eye on Demons clash

West Coast coach John Worsfold won't mention his team's horror record on the road ahead of Saturday's AFL clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

The Eagles have won just one of their past 24 away matches but Worsfold said the poor record wouldn't be a focus before the game.

"No, absolutely not," Worsfold said.

"Because we're building up to be good enough to win anywhere.

"The past has no influence on what we do this week, absolutely no influence.

"We use it in our preparation and all the little things you look at but the fact that we struggle to win away from Subi - as we know from last year we beat the Western Bulldogs on the road - so you can do it.

"We go out and test ourselves this week.

"We want to play together, play strong, hard footy.

"Learn from each other, push each other, keep improving.

"That's our focus.

"It doesn't matter where we play, we're looking forward to it."

West Coast forward Josh Kennedy kicked a career-best six goals and Mark LeCras added four as the Eagles overcame Hawthorn by eight points on Saturday, 15.12 (102) to 14.10 (94).

Ashley Hansen bagged his second straight seven-goal haul in the WAFL on Saturday to push his case for a recall but Worsfold said he was pleased with how Quinten Lynch (15 possessions, two goals) performed against the Hawks.

"He worked very hard again today," Worsfold said.

"He played a good role for us and supported his fellow forwards really well."

The Eagles led by 25 points midway through the final term before Hawks forward Jarryd Roughead booted four quick goals to take the game down to the wire.

Roughead finished the match with six goals and Worsfold conceded his team still needed to work on their skills and decision making.

"It was better, yeah, but we've still got miles to go," he said.

"I think Hawthorn kicked a couple of easy goals from either 50 metre penalties or poor turnovers that we made.

"Kicking the ball out on the full or taking risks when you're on the boundary line and there's no real advantage for us to gain and coughing it up, so little things like that we'll keep learning from."

Hawthorn could be without midfielder Chance Bateman for Sunday's clash with Richmond after he was reported for a dangerous, head-high bump on Eagles debutant Brad Sheppard.

Defender Brent Guerra is also in doubt after copping a severe knock to his thigh.
