West Coast on the right track: Worsfold
West Coast coach John Worsfold is adamant the Eagles will be challenging for an AFL premiership within three years - even if he's no longer at the helm.
Worsfold fronted the club's board on Tuesday morning in a pre-arranged meeting to discuss the club's limp 1-4 start to the season.
The Eagles started the year with high hopes of playing finals football but find themselves languishing in 13th place ahead of Sunday's clash with high-flying Fremantle.
Worsfold was confident the club remained on track for the ultimate success and said he had the board's backing in his bid to achieve that outcome.
"The big picture ... I am confident this club will be challenging for a premiership in three years, whether that is me coaching it or me cheering it on, I am confident it will be there," Worsfold said on Tuesday.
"We are sticking with the plan and we are all on the same page and (the board are) very strongly supportive of it.
"They asked questions regarding why we are at where we are at, what our plans are going forward ... the board, the match committee and our players have a lack of tolerance to losing games of football.
"In terms of answering questions to the board, I have done that for eight or nine years.
"That is an easy part of the job because I deliver information, we share information, and I gain from their experience.
"I am fairly happy with the way we are going.
"There are a few young players that are not in great form, but their development is still tracking along pretty well.
"But the long-term goal of winning a premiership does not hang on where we finish this year."
Worsfold said he was prepared to wear short-term pain for long-term glory.
"I feel pressure about not winning games, because that is what we are all here to do ... we want to win," Worsfold said.
"We also want to win a premiership. That is still my ultimate goal and you sometimes have to wear some pain to build a premiership-winning team.
"I am prepared to wear that pain ... if it is personal pain, it is pretty easy to wear when you have got a vision in mind.
"Short-term criticism, and attacks, are only there to try and take your eye off your goal.
"They won't do that to me."
Worsfold has come under increasing criticism for the axing of forward Quinten Lynch after the club's round one loss to Brisbane.
Ashley Hansen failed to fire as Lynch's replacement while Mitch Brown, who was moved from defence into the forward 50 this year, has struggled in the new role.
Worsfold claimed the board didn't ask about any selection issues.
