Eagles won't finish bottom: Worsfold
Besieged West Coast coach John Worsfold says there's no way his struggling team will finish with the AFL wooden spoon this season.
Worsfold's position has come under renewed pressure since Sunday's 49-point mauling at the hands of last-placed Richmond, which left the Eagles with just three wins from 12 rounds.
The premiership coach said he was unfazed by reports West Coast powerbrokers wanted to replace the club's administration from top to bottom, saying he felt safe in his role.
"I'd be silly to think, with the team the way it is, that a lot of people aren't going to question the coaching performance," Worsfold said on Tuesday.
"I would expect that's a normal thing.
"So I'm not worried about that, no.
"We are probably at our real bottom point in terms of building this group up.
"We are at our least experienced but our performances are on par with this time last year, so that's a positive in a way if you can grab one.
"Last year we were playing (Adam) Hunter and (David) Wirrpanda, (Chad) Fletcher, (Tyson) Stenglein, (Brent) Staker, (Mark) Seaby.
"Those guys aren't here because we didn't think they were going to be part of our next premiership.
"But we have to understand we had to go backwards. We've gone to a younger squad this year."
The Eagles sit just one win and percentage above the last-placed Tigers but Worsfold said thoughts of a first-ever wooden spoon hadn't even crossed his mind.
"It won't happen so no emotion at all .... absolutely (confident)," Worsfold said.
When asked whether the Eagles were the worst team in the competition, Worsfold replied: "My response to that is we go on the ladder.
"Ask me the same question at the end of the year."
