AFL proposes top-10 draft countdown
The AFL is proposing a bizarre top-10 countdown among possible changes to the staging of the national draft.
The draft might move from its usual Saturday morning scheduling to Thursday night prime time in late November.
It is understood broadcaster Fox Sports has put the proposals to the league, which briefed club football managers on the ideas at a Wednesday meeting.
As part of the revamped draft, the clubs with the top 10 picks would have a private meeting just before draft starts.
Starting with pick one, each club would nominate their selection.
They would then be held to those picks once the draft started with a countdown from 10 to one.
Once the staged countdown was over, the draft would then proceed as normal from pick No.11.
The league is also proposing that the draft be moved from Saturday, November 28 to 6.30pm on Thursday, November 26.
