AFL draft date made TV friendly
The AFL will go ahead with plans to make the national draft more of a television event, staging it on a Thursday night.
The league have announced they will move the draft from Saturday, November 28 to Thursday evening, November 26.
The draft has traditionally been a morning event on the weekend.
"As part of an effort to enhance the draft selection meeting, the AFL has now decided to move the date of the draft forward," the league announced in a statement.
"The draft will begin at 6.30pm and aimed to conclude by 8pm, with a live telecast on Fox Sports."
The league is still looking at a proposal to have a special countdown of the top 10 draft picks.
In the proposal, the clubs with the first 10 picks would go to a private room before the draft and commit to their selections, then announce them from 10 to one at the start of the telecast.
