Injured Adcock may be back by October
Brisbane Lions vice-captain Jed Adcock has breathed a big sigh of relief after scans revealed he would not require a knee reconstruction.
It was feared Adcock would be sidelined for up to a year after an initial assessment that he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday night's 43-point win over Geelong at the Gabba.
But further scans showed the on-baller has a tibial plateau fracture of his right knee which will not require surgery.
The sixth-placed club said the injury was expected to sideline him for at least 10 weeks, making it extremely unlikely that he will play again in 2009.
But coach Michael Voss is overjoyed Adcock will be able to begin training again in October and have a full pre-season before the 2010 premiership kicks off.
Adcock is one of four Lions ruled out for the year, including ruck duo Jamie Charman (ankle) and Bart McCulloch (quad), and Pat Garner (knee).
