Ben Jeffrey banned for drink driving
Gold Coast Titans speedster Ben Jeffery has become the latest NRL player to rue a drinking session.
Jeffery, 21, was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for five months after pleading guilty in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
He was arrested for drink driving after a random breath test on December 21, 2008.
The court was told he was driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.107 per cent - more than twice the limit.
Jeffery is expected to face further punishment from his NRL club.
He has played 22 first grade games since making his NRL debut in 2006.
He moved from the Wests Tigers to the Titans in 2008, playing 19 games for the Gold Coast last season.
Jeffery is yet to play an NRL game in 2009.
Alcohol consumption by players has become a major issue in the NRL in 2009 since the fallout over Manly's disastrous season launch.
