Naiqama cleared by Newcastle police
Newcastle police have cleared Knights centre Wes Naiqama of any wrongdoing following an incident which left a female patron at a Newcastle hotel with a facial cut.
Naiqama was stood down by the NRL club on Wednesday after he was confirmed as a person of interest by police after a plastic cup was allegedly thrown at a woman at a Newcastle hotel on February 1.
While news that he was cleared by police would have come as welcome relief to the Fijian World Cup star, he may not be in the clear just yet with the NRL club to proceed with its own internal investigation.
The Knights disciplinary committee will meet on Friday to determine whether any further action will be taken.
"We were pleased to receive the phone call from the police today, but we will be satisfying ourselves directly when we hold tomorrow's meeting," Knights chief executive Steve Burraston said.
"The disciplinary committee will determine if there has been a breach of the club's code of conduct and if so will recommend any necessary sanctions for the board's consideration."
The 26-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury which is likely to keep him sidelined for the opening few rounds of the NRL season.
