AFL player fined for smashing car window
Port Adelaide has fined first-year recruit Jackson Trengove $2,500 after he smashed a car windscreen in an alcohol-related incident before Christmas.
The club said the fine was the maximum allowed under the AFL players code of conduct and half the amount had been suspended.
It said Trengove, 18, damaged the back windscreen of the car in a late night incident while on leave.
As well as being fined, the player also paid for the windscreen to be repaired and apologised to the car's owner and the owner's family.
Trengove will undertake extra club duties as part of his penalty and receive additional counselling on responsible drinking.
His penalties were imposed by Port's leadership group and sanctioned by club management.
Power football manager Peter Rohde said Trengove's actions were outside the players code of conduct and he was penalised accordingly.
"Jackson knows that his actions were unacceptable," Rohde said.
"The club has reviewed all the circumstances and spoken to all parties involved in the incident.
"Jackson made a poor choice while under the influence of alcohol and we do not condone his actions."
Rohde said Trengove was embarrassed and apologetic while leadership group member Brendon Lade said the teenager would learn from the incident.
"It is important that all players, including young players, are equipped to deal with various circumstances with which they may be faced," Lade said.
