Saints' Fiora faces one-match suspension
St Kilda's woes deepened on Monday with midfielder Aaron Fiora facing a one-match suspension after the AFL match review panel charged him with striking.
Fiora hit Collingwood first-gamer John McCarthy in the stomach during the Saints' disappointing 14-point loss to the Magpies at the MCG on Saturday night.
The match review panel handed Fiora a one-match ban that cannot be reduced with an early guilty plea due to carryover points.
St Kilda officials said on Monday night they would decide on Tuesday morning whether to take the matter to the AFL Tribunal.
The fact they have nothing to lose may sway them to fight the charge as they desperately need to beat Fremantle on Sunday at Subiaco to keep their precarious hold on a top eight spot.
The match review panel decided not to take action against Melbourne tagger Lynden Dunn for making contact with Geelong's Steve Johnson during Geelong's huge win over the Demons on Friday night.
"It was the view of the panel that Dunn's action was a push and not a striking motion," they said in a statement explaining the decision.
