Gould still in limbo over NSW job
Phil Gould's future with NSW remains in limbo after a meeting between the Blues coach and the newspaper with which he is at odds failed to immediately resolve the issue.
Gould met Daily Telegraph editor Campbell Reid but afterwards gave no indication on whether he would be coaching NSW in this year's State of Origin series.
The National Rugby League released a brief statement last night in which it said Gould would meet with NSW Rugby League chairman Colin Love within 48 hours before making his decision public.
"Mr Gould and Mr Love are due to meet as early as possible," the statement said.
The statement said the meeting between Gould and Reid confirmed that News Limited had always strongly supported the Origin Series irrespective of any coaching appointment.
Gould - who writes for rival media organisation Fairfax - said he had been told he risked compromising the coverage of the series if he refused to deal with certain News Limited journalists.
"Gould in turn confirmed that he had no specific issue with News Limited or its newspapers, despite conflicts he had encountered with individuals within the organisation," the statement said.
An announcement on Gould's future is expected before the weekend, with all parties believed to be keen to resolve the matter.
However, Love is understood to be unavailable for most of today, meaning the matter could drag into Thursday.
Gould has already had one session with the Blues, taking an extended 33-man squad through a camp at Telstra Stadium on Monday.
