Gould to make decision this week
NSW assistant coach Laurie Daley will be shocked if Phil Gould walks away from State of Origin rugby league coaching job this season.
Gould expects to make a decision within days on whether he'll quit as NSW coach over his spat with some journalists from News Limited.
The premiership-winning coach will meet with NRL chief executive David Gallop and Australian Rugby League chairman Colin Love later this week before making up his mind.
But Daley thinks the Blues coach will stay.
"I think he will continue to do it," Daley said.
"He's very passionate about State of Origin. He's very upbeat and pumped to try to win it.
"It would really, really shock me if he walked away."
Gould, who writes for News Limited's rival Fairfax, returned to Origin football last season after a six year absence, leading the Blues to a drawn series with Queensland.
He has admitted he couldn't see any way round his current plight, which stretches back to the Super League-ARL war.
Gould has also been critical in the past of Queensland coach Wayne Bennett's treatment of the media and believes it would be hypocritical of him to adopt a similar stance.
