Crocs beat Breakers to make top four
The Townsville Crocodiles have snapped up a spot in the NBL top four after thrashing the New Zealand Breakers 133-110 at the Swamp.
Young guards Kelvin Robertson (25 points) and Adam Quick (17) played starring roles while rookie Brad Newley contributed 23 as the Crocs notched their ninth win in succession.
The Breakers fought back from double figure deficits several times thanks mainly to the efforts of sharpshooter Aaron Olson's 31 points while import Mike Chappell returned from injury with 21 points.
Sydney's win over Melbourne earlier in the night means the Crocs leapfrog the Tigers into fourth place, but coach Ian Stacker wasn't getting too excited about his team's position on the table.
"Obviously we've got one game to go so we've got to take care of business," Stacker said.
"It would be a shame to slip up in the last game of the season."
Townsville's win was soured with the news veteran Pat Reidy could miss the start of the playoffs after he pulled a groin muscle in the first half.
"We're not going to know for certain until it settles down," Stacker said.
"Right now the gut feeling is he could miss a couple of weeks. It's bad timing."
The loss leaves New Zealand with the wooden spoon, but outgoing coach Frank Arsego said there were some positive signs despite another heavy road defeat.
