Lions welcome some stars back
The Brisbane Lions will be far from full strength, but will still regain some of their premiership lustre for the practice match against St Kilda in Brisbane on Friday.
Missing almost half of their 2002 premiership side through injury or forced rest, the Lions were booted out of the Wizard Cup by Geelong in Cairns last week.
But against St Kilda at Coorparoo, the Lions will welcome back dual premiership stars Michael Voss, Alastair Lynch, Tim Notting and Brad Scott.
New recruit Blake Caracella will also be back in the team but the Lions will still be missing seven premiership players, including 2001 Norm Smith Medallist Shaun Hart who received a minor ankle strain against Geelong.
Full forward Alastair Lynch admitted watching the Geelong game last week on television was frustrating.
"We had a number of senior players out so the team played a bit different," Lynch said.
"But it was great to see the young guys playing and everyone watching would have been encouraged with what the young guys showed.
"To play well and be in contention to win the game was pleasing, but it was exciting to see the Brennans and Pratts and Hadleys and the likes play well."
Lynch only expects to play part of the game against St Kilda and wants a full workout in the final practice match before the start of the season.
St Kilda are tipped to be the big improvers this season with youngsters like Nick Riewoldt, Josh Houlihan, Luke Ball and Jason Blake set to play at Coorparoo.
