Brisbane midfielder Troy Selwood's AFL season is over but the Lions report his injuries from Sunday's win over Essendon aren't as bad as first feared.

The Lions on Monday confirmed Selwood sustained rib cartilage damage following a collision with Bomber Kyle Hardingham at Etihad Stadium.

He was taken to hospital immediately after the incident and scans revealed that there were no broken bones as initially expected.

Selwood, who stayed in hospital overnight, is expected to make a full recovery but will miss Brisbane's final-round match against Sydney on Saturday night at the Gabba.
