Rampant Lions demolish Demons
A rampant Brisbane Lions have smashed Melbourne by 60 points in their AFL clash at the Gabba.
The Demons had few answers to Brisbane's total dominance losing 18.15 (123) to 9.9 (63).
The Lions' form has been questioned in the first two months of the season but they continued from where from where they left off in their huge win against Carlton last week.
While the Lions' midfield have been dominant it has been Brisbane's rock-solid rebounding defence which left the Demons flat footed.
The Demons' trump card captain David Neitz saw little of the ball at full forward with Brad and Chris Scott, Justin Leppitsch and Robbie Copeland continually turning defence into attack.
The omens were bad for the Demons when Brisbane centre half forward Martin Pike kicked the first of his two goals just 10 seconds into the match.
The Demons hardly made an impression in their forward lines and recorded their first score - a point - in the 24 minute mark of the first quarter.
The Lions had jumped to a 39-nil lead by then and led at the first break by that margin.
Brisbane continued its form in the second quarter with Alastair Lynch and Black Caracella with four goals each being focal points in attack.
Lynch added one more in the second half for a five-goal tally.
