Chelsea severs ties with Bosnich
Mark Bosnich's ties with English soccer club Chelsea were formally severed today following his drugs charge.
The club gave the former Socceroo goalkeeper 14 days' notice earlier this month of its intention to sack him after he was charged by the Football Association with bringing the game into disrepute by testing positive for cocaine.
That period expired today and Chelsea officially cancelled his STG40,000 ($A109,700)-a-week contract - although the Australian remains listed as a squad member on the club's website.
Bosnich is due to appeal the FA charge on January 29 and is expected to launch a legal challenge against his sacking.
He was treated in The Priory clinic in south London for depression late last year after the positive test.
