Bosnich loses appeal against sacking
Mark Bosnich has lost his appeal against his sacking by English soccer club Chelsea following his positive drugs test.
The former Socceroo goalkeeper took Chelsea to the Football League Appeals Committee in an attempt to force the club to reinstate his STG42,000 ($A106,000)-a-week contract, which was severed in January.
But the committee upheld Chelsea's decision to sack the 31-year-old after he tested positive for cocaine late last year.
Bosnich, who did not attend last Friday's hearing, had argued that the club had no right to terminate his contract before his case had been heard by the Football Association.
Lawyer Peter Goodman said Bosnich's legal team had yet to receive the written reasons for the committee's decision.
"We'll be looking into an appeal when we receive the reasons," Goodman said.
Bosnich tested positive to the recreational drug in a random FA test last October and was sacked by Chelsea in January.
In April, the FA disciplinary committee found him guilty of misconduct and breaching its doping laws and suspended him for nine months, backdated to December 23.
Bosnich's appeal against the ban is expected to be heard next month, although no date has been set.
At least four Premiership clubs, including the newly-promoted Portsmouth, have expressed interest in signing him when his ban expires in September, a month into the new season.
