Bosnich to appeal nine month ban
Mark Bosnich has vowed to fight a nine-month ban handed down by England's Football Association following the former Socceroo's positive test for cocaine.
Bosnich, 31, who has been suspended since Christmas, was found guilty by the FA's disciplinary commission of improper conduct and breaching its doping control rules by failing a drugs test last October.
The FA will ask world governing body FIFA to make the ban global.
Bosnich, who claimed his drink was spiked at a London nightclub, was devastated by the finding and will lodge an appeal within a fortnight.
"Mark is very disappointed by the commission's decision and intends to appeal as soon as possible," Bosnich's lawyer Keith Schilling said.
The ban is a huge blow for the Australian goalkeeper, who was axed by London club Chelsea from his STG42,000 ($A108,000)-a-week contract in January.
But he escaped a possible two-year ban and his suspension was backdated to last December, meaning he will be able to play again in September.
Professional Footballers' Association head Gordon Taylor said Bosnich was young enough to rebuild his career.
"It may well have been worse and while it's damaging to his career, it doesn't mean to say that his career is over, if he's prepared and dedicated enough, which I believe he is, to get back on track," Taylor said.
"But if he does come back into the game he will be regularly monitored and tested to ensure he is clean. That is the procedure approved by all the players, it is PFA policy because we want to make sure football is drug-free."
