Milicic ensures the points for Power
Leading goal scorer Ante Milicic won the points for Parramatta 1-0 over Sydney Olympic but the Power suffered a damaging blow in their hard fought National Soccer League victory at Jubilee Stadium.
Diminutive Parramatta striker John Buonavoglia was heavily tackled by Olympic midfielder Troy Halpin in the 42nd minute and was taken to St George Hospital with a fractured right leg.
A hospital specialist said Buonavoglia had broken a bone in his lower leg and it was touch and go whether an operation would be needed.
"John will be out for at least six weeks. We've had a number of problems with bone injuries this season although it didn't look an aggressive tackle," Parramatta coach Nick Theodorakopoulos said.
"It was a hard but not dirty game and Olympic keeper Brett Hughes was outstanding and their team made us fight all the way."
It was the second broken leg in recent weeks for Parramatta who lost Andrew Durante after his fracture in the game against Marconi for which Brad Maloney got a four weeks suspension.
Halpin, who was booked for the tackle, was sent off in the 81st minute when he lashed out at Milicic.
The winner came in the 79th minute when a Simon Colosimo corner was flicked on by Ahmad Elrich to Milicic who was left with an easy header past Hughes.
Olympic dominated the second half and the 34-year-old Hughes displayed superb form in saving at least three clear chances.
Substitute Travis Dodd could have wrapped up the match for Parramatta in the last few minutes when left unmarked 12 metres from the goal but swerved his shot wide.
