Franklin re-signs with Hawks
Hawthorn forward Lance Franklin has re-signed with the AFL club for the next two seasons, which ends speculation he might be headed elsewhere next year.
Franklin, a 19-year-old former No.5 draft pick and a player of enormous potential, had delayed signing a new contract which led him to become a target of Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy's post-season recruiting.
But the West Australian confirmed he never entertained the idea of moving to another club.
"No, definitely not," he told Channel Nine's The Footy Show.
"I'm just very happy to get the two-year contract with Hawthorn and I was never really thinking about joining another club.
"I'm very happy with a two-year contract and I'm looking forward to the next two years."
Franklin has played 26 games for the Hawks and took a giant step towards announcing himself as a future star when he booted six goals in the round 12 win over Richmond.
In further good news for Hawthorn, experienced defender Danny Jacobs has also extended his contract.
Jacobs, 26, has not played since round 10, when he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury.
"I couldn't be happier," Jacobs said.
"I started the year pretty well and started to get negotiations going and then the hamstring went, so I was pretty nervy.
"So to get it (contract) done now and not to wait around is awesome."
