Jackson sparks Capitals rout
Lauren Jackson led the Canberra Capitals to a 102-45 rout of Mambas de Mozambique in the Women's World Cup Group B.
Jackson, the Seattle Storm's WNBA MVP, notched 26 points and 17 rebounds as the Capitals trounced the African league runners-up.
Sarah Berry added 15 points, Kellie Abrams and Joan Hill scored 12 apiece for the Capitals in the world club championship.
Ana Azinheira got 12 of Mambas' 45 points.
The African team comprises the best players of Mozambique's six women's teams.
Detroit forward Cheryl Ford scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds as the WNBA Select team beat South Korea's league champion Wooribank Haesane 86-53.
The Americans fell behind eight points in the first quarter, but caught fire in the second quarter when San Antonio guard Marie Ferdinand's scored nine points and Ford's seven to hold a commanding 37-26 lead at halftime.
Sacramento rookie Kara Lawson had 14 points and Houston center Michelle Snow added 13 in the first game of the inaugural World Cup, organised by basketball governing body FIBA to determine the world's best club team.
The event precedes the World League, a two-round tournament in the spring and autumn, expected to be held annually starting next year.
For the Samara event, FIBA invited eight teams divided into two groups. They will play a round-robin, and the winners and runners-up of each group will proceed to semi-finals.
