Opals beat China again
The Australian women's basketball team made it two wins in as many days beating China 77-70 in game two of a three-game series at the State Sports Centre.
The Opals, despite losing starting guard Kristi Harrower with a broken nose late in the third term, broke away from a dogged China in the final quarter to take victory by seven points.
Harrower copped a nasty blow on her nose, which split the skin under her eye, from 1.90m China forward Ye Li and was forced to leave the game covered in blood.
In game one a second half inspired by WNBA star Penny Taylor gave the Opals victory over the Asian Champions by 26 points (79-53).
But China, led by dynamic forward Miao Lifie, hassled the Opals right to the wire in a physical encounter.
Laura Summerton was the best of the Australians with 17 points and four rebounds, while centre Suzy Batkovic's finished with 16 points and four rebounds and Taylor 12 points and seven rebounds.
