Young Aussie claims F3 title
Young Sydney racing driver Ryan Briscoe has given his chances of following fellow Australian Mark Webber into Formula One a huge boost by clinching the new European Formula Three Championship.
Starting from pole position at Hockenheim, home of the German Grand Prix, 22-year-old Briscoe raced to his eighth win in 18 races this season.
The only driver with a hope of beating Briscoe to the title, 20-year-old Austrian Christian Klien, finished third in the race.
Briscoe is already a test driver for Toyota's F1 team and drove 270 laps for it at Jerez in Spain recently, lapping faster than Williams-BMW's Spanish test driver Marc Gene, who substituted for Ralf Schumacher at the recent Italian GP.
