Ambrose takes out V8 best and fairest
Marcos Ambrose and Stone Brothers Racing's domination of the V8 Supercar championship has continued with Ambrose named the sport's best and fairest driver.
Ambrose, who secured back-to-back V8 Supercar titles at Eastern Creek last weekend, won the coveted Barry Sheene Medal for outstanding leadership, personality, fan appeal and sportsmanship.
A team of 14 panellists from the major metropolitan media, motorsport magazines, former drivers and Network Ten commentators voted at every round of the championship to award the medal that honours the former motorsport legend and V8 Supercar commentator.
Ambrose also won last year's inaugural medal after its inception in 2003.
Despite Ford's domination of the year through Stone Brothers Racing, Holden won the champion manufacturer award for the most event victories.
The Holden Racing Team won the People's Choice award for the most popular team, with Skaife named most popular personality.
Former touring car greats Bob Morris and Fred Gibson were inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining Colin Bond, Peter Brock, Dick Johnson, Allan Moffat and Ian Geoghegan on the list of Australian motorsport legends.
More than 500 people attended the awards dinner at the Gold Coast Convention Centre at Broadbeach.
