Lowndes fairest driver, overpaid: poll
Ford favourite Craig Lowndes has been voted the fairest and most respected driver in Auto Action magazine's inaugural V8 Supercar Drivers' Poll, but he was also considered the most overpaid.
Published on Wednesday, the poll grilled all 30 of Australia's V8 Supercar drivers, plus the 16 team owners.
Holden's Garth Tander - the current championship leader - was voted the best driver and the man most likely to win the 2007 title, ahead of his Toll HSV team-mate Rick Kelly.
But only 10 per cent believed Tander was the fairest.
Lowndes also won the support of the majority of team owners, with 37 per cent claiming he is the best driver in the field, just ahead of Tander and Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife.
While Skaife was voted one of the most wanted drivers by team owners, almost a third of his V8 peers voted Skaife the driver they would least like as a team-mate.
Almost half the field nominated retiring legend John Bowe as the most difficult driver to overtake.
Not surprisingly, 66 per cent of the drivers rated the famous Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst as Australia's best motor racing circuit.
Winton Motor Raceway in rural Victoria was voted the worst circuit on the calendar.
