Webber curses nightmare race
Mark Webber was left cursing a nightmare Malaysian Grand Prix when he failed to finish the race after starting from his best-ever grid position.
Webber felt he could have scored points after making his and Jaguar's first front row start alongside pole-sitter Michael Schumacher, but he admitted the team had taken a fall after relishing in their qualifying success.
"We climbed to the top of a pretty big tree and we just dropped off the top of it," said the disheartened Australian.
"Worse still, we didn't even get to see anything up there.
"I am really disappointed with what happened after all the work we put in. We just triggered the anti-stall off the line and you can't do that. We didn't get away and unfortunately it was the worst-case scenario."
Webber was faced with an open track as he sat alongside world champion Schumacher on the grid and admitted it was difficult to control his emotions when car after car passed as he dropped to 13th place at the start.
But that was only the beginning.
"If you make a s*** start then you have got to get back," Webber added. "We did that on the first lap, I recovered a bit, but then got a puncture when Ralf (Schumacher) hit me.
"I had to carry the puncture from turn one back to the pits which was also not a good thing and that damaged the car a little bit which didn't help its handling. Then I sped in the pits! It just wasn't supposed to happen."
Webber put the mistakes down to inexperience but it was the second time he has failed to finish this season after retiring in Australia because of gearbox problems.
