Ambrose fastest in practice again
He's won three rounds out of five and once again was the fastest driver in practice for round six of the V8 Supercar series at Hidden Valley.
But Ford driver Marcos Ambrose still sits third in this season's championship as the new series points system continues to prove his toughest opponent.
V8 Supercar racing's revamped points system, which awards a narrower spread of points than previous years, is designed to stop one driver running away with the championship as Holden's Mark Skaife did last season.
But it's also been criticised as unfairly favouring consistency over racing, with championship pacesetters Jason Bright (851) and Steven Richards (834) not winning a round this year.
If last season's points system was operating, third-placed Ambrose would be 125 points clear of his rivals.
Ambrose was guarded in his views on the new system, but it clearly rankles the Stone Brothers Racing driver.
"I don't want to talk about it. I've done a lot of work with my therapist," Ambrose joked.
"Look, it doesn't really matter what the points system is - as long as the best bloke wins.
"I just hope I win the championship."
Points system aside, Ambrose continued to prove himself the V8 Supercar driver of the year.
